Abstract
The connection of economy and politics is something that today obviously leads to complications in the development and progress of countries, which are sometimes facilitating and sometimes causing problems. But in the meantime, it seems that geographical conditions as the third vertex of the triangle determine the shape and trend of both economic and political variables. The present article has examined the country of Iran in the period from Qajar to Pahlavi with these three variables. The problem of water shortage, livelihood and economic life of the people had made the presence of a powerful patrimonial, and the patrimonial used a dependent and non-productive economic system to maintain its position and perform its costly role. Due to the different economic conditions in the Qajar and Pahlavi periods, the political system also changed from patrimonial to neo-patrimonial. Finally, in this article, the difference between the patrimonial and neo-patrimonial system in Iran is concluded by focusing on the rentier economy. It seems that rent-seeking, which is the reason for the survival of rent-seeking governments, is also going on in Israel today. America's guaranteed aid to Israel has the same role as oil in rentier governments.
