Abstract
One of the basic and important principles of the political system of the United States of America is the representation system, and it can be said that elections are held in this country almost more than any other country. These elections are held at the levels of the federal government, state and local governments. The electoral system in the United States of America is closely related to the party system. On the one hand, America has a fifty-party system, and on the other hand, it is ruled by four parties, and from another perspective, only two parties exchange power among themselves. In the presidential election, the power grab between the two main parties of the American society (Democrats and Republicans) is more obvious than in other elections. At the federal government level, the president is elected for four years through a two-stage election system, on the one hand by the people and on the other hand by the elected people who must choose a specific person (called the Electoral College). The election of the president goes through a process of several months and sometimes even several years. In this process, the election debates between the candidates of the two main parties are more significant. The results of these debates have a special contribution in determining the final result of the elections. Democratic and Republican candidates each try to win the debate in the polls by using words, terms, special semantics, mastering internal and external weaknesses and challenges, presenting a program, etc. One of the most important debates between the candidates of the two main Republican and Democratic parties in the history of the US presidential elections was between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama in 2012. In this article, an attempt has been made to provide a clear description and inference of the three election debates between Obama and Romney by using the content analysis method.
